Dual fish eye Lens!

Seeing the world with extra wide view always fascinates.. Basically human tendency for a wider screen image has brought many formats into cinematography aspect ratio.

Recently VR world of having ultra wide using many lenses stitching together in the post become a common practice.

As for cinematography is concerned all special applications becomes limited because of narrative requirements.

Still few shots of extraordinary view makes huge impact on audience.

Canon has announced a dual fish eye lens which has RF mount.

Dual Fisheye manual lens designed specifically to mount R5 camera. It’s a highly unusual with two bulging fisheye lenses mounted side by side. They’re placed approximately 60mm (2.4 inches) apart to match human interpupillary distance and provide comfortable parallax for VR( virtual reality) and AR( augmented reality).

The lens works only with Canon’s EOS R5, chosen for its 8K video capability. When shooting, it projects two circular images onto the camera’s 45-megapixel sensor. It supports 190-degree capture.

As per Canon it is world’s first digital interchangeable lens that can capture stereoscopic 3D 180° VR imagery to a single image sensor.”

Canon is releasing a 1.5.0 firmware update for the R5 as well as a Premiere Pro plug-in and a standalone file conversion app called EOS VR Utility. Canon calls this combination the EOS VR System.

Aperture is electronically controlled with wide opening F/2.8,

The lens has a close focusing distance of 7.87-inches/0.2m and a maximum magnification of 0.03x. It also features a built-in Gelatin Filter Holder which allows ND gel filters to be used in bright environments without needing to stop down the lens.
