SICA 4K Cinematic Master Class

The first of its kind Cinematography Training Program which had Lectures, Demos and hands-on training (in both English and Tamil) with different latest Digital Cinema Cameras and Key principles on Lighting was conducted by Sica on March 10th 2018

About 70 members attended and benefited by this program.

The main purpose of this cinematography workshop was to demonstrate methodology to explore technical and artistic potential with Tools of Cinematography, practicing environment of RAW and LOG Exposure.

SICA’s  President P.C.Sreeram was keen on this training program to have a lighting session to start with Light tight dark hall with key lights, fill lights to follow to know the modern digital camera sensitivity for Light.

SICA 4k cinematic master class was inaugurated by SICA’s President  P.C.Sreeram General Secretary B.Kannan  with the presence of  Treasurer Rm.Ramanath Shetty , Joint Secretary Sridhar Janarthanan, Executive committee members A.Karthik Raaja,  D.Kannan  and BOFTA  founder Dhananjayan.

 

First session begun with Cinematographer/Author  CJ Rajkumar who made a  presentation about  how  a digital cinematography camera works and construction of a Image Sensor with detailed view on each and every technical aspects of sensor functionality and its influence on Imaging.

Second session followed by Veteran Cinematographer Kichaas explaining about Image circle and different aspect ratios right from silent era to digital era.

Third session was handled by Cinematographer Mahesh Muthuswami who made a presentation about different cinema cameras and their relative Sensor Sizes and also to understand the multiple formats in film making.

Fourth Session by lecturer Gowri Shankar focused on Different types of Video files, Codec and understanding about advantages and disadvantages of compressed and uncompressed video files along with color bit depth, chroma sampling.

Fifth Session was handled by lecturer Narayan Kumar who completely took a different perspective to understand the aesthetic principles in first place and technology follows next, gave insights about Naturalism and Pictorialsim and also presented exposure latitude test of digital camera.

Post Lunch Session

As SICA organised almost ten cameras for the training program, participants were divide into groups and each group were sent for each camera and rotated to other cameras till evening.

Finally at the end of the session videos of the official footage of different cameras exhibited in the training program was screened to the participants.

Question and Answer session was conducted and it was overwhelming to get positive feedback from the participants requesting SICA to conduct more workshops for the future.

Valedictory function

SICA Certificate of completion was given to all participants. Editor  B.Lenin appreciated SICA for organising this multi platform workshop  and handed over certificates to participants in the presence of SICA President P.C.Sreeram who agreed to conduct more workshops in benefit for its members and thanked Dhananjayan for providing Bofta venue.

General Secretary B.Kannan thanked SICA committee members for organizing this workshop, acceptance speech followed by Treasurer Rm.Ramanath Shetty and Joint Secretary Sridhar Janarthanan thanked Anand cine service, Adnt Ratna , Panasonic, Carl Zeiss for providing equipment support for this event.
