5 Management Lessons from Mouna Raagam

Movies are not always made to exploit people with glamour, adultery, fights etc. Tamil Movie “Mouna Ragam” is one such example for the brilliance of craft by the Film Maker Mani Ratnam and brilliant visuals by Pc Sreeram showered appreciative attitude of the audience. Apart from being an entertainment medium, movies too act as a platform to learn life lessons. Mouna Ragam has an underline management lessons in each part of the movie. One of the earlier movies to explore the role of a Personal Manager (Now, Human Resources) enacted by the Hero.

1. Patience – Knowing her marriage is arranged, Heroine Divya comes home late. Hero Chandrakumar patiently wait to see her. Even after she talks arrogantly to Chandrasekar, he keeps himself very calm. Rather than taming the shrew, he decides to be patient all through the story.

2. Decision Making – Through out the movie, based on the character shades, each and everyone takes right decisions. Manohar with Divya, Chandrasekar with Divya, Chandramouli with Divya etc. These decisions helps the story to move forward. Chandrasekar decides not to forcefully live with Divya and let her go when she choose divorce.

3. Learning Opportunity – In spite of doing several mistakes, Chandrasekar shows compassion towards Divya. He gives time and opportunity for her to correct the mistakes. Seeing positive in negative situation is what Chandrasekar does all the time. he could have rejected her on the day one itself but he wants to groom her to the metropolitan culture and life.

4. Compassion – Chandrasekar puts Divya at the first place in all his decision making. Being a husband, he could have forcibly achieved her but he provides all support and time. In the era of male in first place, he chose to be in second place to give her equal space to learn and grow.

5. Trust – Screenplay is written based on the profession of the characters into consideration. Each characters have a various levels of trust factor on the other. Divya has blind trust on Manohar. Chandramouli has potential trust on her daughter. Chandrasekar has truthful trust on his process. College girl Divya shows immature attitude. Gang member Manohar shows mischievous attitude. Chandramouli shouws caring attitude and Chandrasekar shows professional attitude towards everything.

This is one of the movie where genre, plot, situation, characters align with the story line.
