Moro – IFFI GOA Movie
Very few movies are satisfying to watch in the IFFI GOA screening. This movie is not only a must watch film but also a heart melting movie from the Filipino Director Brilliante.
The story is set in the Maguindanao region of Western Mindanao, Philippines, Moro follows two brothers, Jasim, the diligent elder brother, and Abdel, the irresponsible younger brother who has squandered his savings on gambling. After having an ominous dream involving her deceased husband, their mother attempts to reconcile the two brothers. With the assistance of the local community, the family finds a semblance of peace. However, unexpected government intervention soon plunges the entire region into a state of severe violence. Moro reveals that sometimes even those we think of as close friends may become the most destructive enemies. The director’s exploration of the weak links within relationships is truly outstanding.
The story starts from the point of view of a mother who had a bad dream about her sons. She tries to create peace between both the son. After a rift, both the brothers shake hands and quit enmity. Suddenly the focus of the movie changes from the differences between the brothers to war background. Where the brothers get killed in the war and hunch of the mother comes true.
It has fantastic camera work, editing, acting. The sudden shift of the story narration was only a concern for me.
Sai Vijendhiran: IFFI Movie – Mighty Afrin
This is one of the best movies I have seen in this edition of IFFI GOA. It comes under Docu Fiction category. The director weaves a chronicles the extraordinary tale of 12-year-old Afrin as she navigates the tumultuous waters of the Brahmaputra River and the challenges of a changing world.
The director Angelos Rallis has pulled off an extremely difficult subject in a wonderful way. The camera work, acting of the lead character Afrin, editing, and sound engineering are extraordinary. It is the must watch movie for the film buffs.
The non linear narrative makes the movie interesting and saves from few monotonous scenes. There are few gaps that could have been justified in the movie. For example. the introduction of Afrin with street kids, and jatka drama.
