SICA Launch Event of Canon EOS C400 and C80 Cameras

The SICA launch event for Canon EOS C400 and C80 cameras took place on 22nd September 2024 at Prasad Lab, Chennai, starting at 10 AM.

The event saw a great turnout, with strong attendance from SICA members and students from various film institutes, who were invited as part of the educational initiative under CAM BENEFIT TRUST.

The event began with SICA General Secretary Ilavarasu and Treasurer Sakthi Saravanan welcoming the gathering. Several ace cinematographers were honored on stage, including P.C. Sreeram, Santosh Sivan, Alphonse Roy, M.S. Prabhu, Loganathan Srinivasan, R.D. Rajasekar, Nirav Shah, Sathyan Sooriyan,Shami, Mahesh Muthuswami, S.R. Kathir, Gavemic U Ary, Madhi, Rajesh Yadav, and Wide Angle Ravishankar. The event was presented by Executive Committee Member Naga Saravanan.

Canon introduced the EOS C400 and C80 cameras, explaining how these new models would make a difference in cinematography. They also highlighted their Cine lens lineup and the advantages of the Native RF mount. A list of global films shot with Canon cinema cameras and lenses was showcased.

The event introduced Canon’s brand ambassadors, legendary cinematographers Santhosh Sivan ASC ISC, Sudeep Chatterji, and Ravi K. Chandran. A glimpse of Sudeep Chatterji’s videos shot with the new Canon C-series cameras was screened, followed by DOP Jay Oza visual of Car commercial and then a  stunning visual spectacle from Santhosh Sivan’s upcoming period drama, shot using the Canon C500 Mark II.

During the event, Santhosh Sivan shared that he had recently shot an episode of the sensation “Manorathangal” using the Canon C70 due to its versatility, especially as a one-man crew camera during the pandemic. He also praised the Canon Sumire Cine Lenses for their unique look.

The Canon EOS C400, a flagship model, was introduced with its full-frame sensor and triple base ISO, while the C80 was highlighted for having similar features in a more compact form.

The event also featured an interactive session where attendees had a chance for hands-on experience with the new cameras, including exploring lighting setups and menu navigation.
