The festival is being conducted at a cost of around Rs 40 crore spent by Centre and approximately Rs 20 crore by the Goa government, officials informed on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, 280 films from 79 countries will be screened at Iffi. Mobile film screenings of Marathi, Konkani and Hindi will also be held through caravans in Goa\u2019s villages.<\/p>\n<p>With 23 \u2018Masterclasses\u2019 and \u2018In Conversation\u2019 sessions with eminent filmmakers and actors, it promises to be an exciting week. There will be a master class in screenwriting by V. Vijayendra Prasad, on editing by A. Sreekar Prasad and Anupam Kher will take a class in acting. A masterclass on ACES will have Oscar Academy experts, while the ones on animation will have Mark Osborne and Christian Jezdic. The mouth-watering line-up comprises 12 International and 3 Indian films that\u00a0represent the emerging trends in the aesthetics and politics of the art.<\/p>\n<p>Films under international competition this year are :<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0<em>Perfect Number (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/1KWUR.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Polish film maker Krzysztof Zanussi\u2019s\u00a0<em>Perfect Number<\/em>\u00a0is a drama that aims to provoke thoughts on morality and mortality. Co-produced with Italy and Israel, the film explores the relationship between a young mathematician and his distant cousin and how a chance meeting between the two leads to profound meditations on the mysterious world order, the meaning of life and its passing.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0<em>Red Shoes (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/2OR06.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mexican film maker Carlos Eichelmann Kaiser describes his film\u00a0<em>Red Shoes\u00a0<\/em>as an emotional reflection more than anything else. The drama is about a farmer who lives an isolated life receiving news of his daughter\u2019s death. The film progresses as the farmer tries to navigate through an unfamiliar and alien world to try and bring his daughter\u2019s body home. Among the multiple award nominations the film has received, it was in contention for the Audience Award at Venice International Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0<em>A Minor (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/361G0.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A founding member of the Iranian New Wave in 1970s, Dariush Mehrjui is well known among connoisseurs of Iranian cinema. The maestro is back at IFFI with his latest film,\u00a0<em>A Minor<\/em>. The film is about a girl who aspires to be a musician despite opposition from her father. Complex equations between members of the same family, differing aspirations between parent and child and the hypnotic spell of music are some themes the film explores.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0<em>No End (2021)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/4PQT9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Iranian drama,\u00a0<em>No End<\/em>\u00a0depicts the manipulations and machinations of the secret police in Iran. A man of quiet integrity, indulges in a lie involving the secret police in a desperate attempt to keep his house. Things get complicated when the real secret police enter the scene. Jafar Panahi Collaborator Nader Saeivar\u2019s second feature was nominated for the New Currents Award at the Busan International Film Festival. Jafar Panahi is credited as advisor and editor.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0<em>Mediterranean Fever (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/5JRYJ.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Palestinian-Israeli\u00a0writer-director Maha Haj\u2019s\u00a0<em>Mediterranean Fever\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0is a black comedy about two middle aged \u2018frenemies\u2019. Winner of the best screenplay award in\u00a0Cannes\u2019 Un Certain Regard competition, the film is woven around an unlikely partnership between an aspiring author and a small time crook.<\/p>\n<p>6.<em>\u00a0When the waves are gone (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/670HG.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>When the waves are gone<\/em>\u00a0by Filipino film maker Lav Diaz is a story an Investigator in the Philippines, who is at a deep moral crossroads. The film discusses his dark past that continues to haunt him even as he tries to heal from severe anxiety and guilt. Lav Diaz, who is known for developing his own form of \u2018cinematic time\u2019 (his 2004 film, E<em>volution of a Filipino Family<\/em>, has a run time of nearly 11 hours) has decided that this film requires just over 3 hours to be told well.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0<em>I have Electric Dreams (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/7XLQZ.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Costa Rican film maker Valentina Maurel won the Best Director Award at the 2022 Locarno International Film Festival with her film\u00a0<em>I have Electric Dreams.<\/em>\u00a0The drama tells the story of Eva, a 16-year-old girl with divorced parents, who is clinging to her estranged father. As she tries to reconnect with him, she discovers surprising traits about her father and herself. The film\u2019s performances have also bagged awards with Reinaldo Amien winning Best Actor and Daniela Mar\u00edn Navarro winning Best Actress at Locarno Internatonal Film Festival<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0<em>Cold as Marble (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/8GZML.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Azerbaijan director Asif Rustamov\u2019s\u00a0<em>Cold as Marble<\/em>\u00a0is crime-drama \/ psycho-thriller about the unexpected return of a father who was jailed for murdering his wife. The focus of the film is on a young man who is described by the director as an anti-hero of changing society. The sensitive painter and tombstone engraver protagonist is in for the shock of his life when he finally finds out why his father killed his mother.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0<em>The Line (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/98W0X.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Ursula Meier\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Line<\/em>\u00a0is a study of acceptance and delicate family bonds. The French-Swiss film maker\u2019s film explores the turbulent relationship between a mother and daughter. The drama, shot in Switzerland, thus features an usual combination of both motherhood and violence<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0<em>Seven Dogs (2021)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/10I03S.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Having premiered at the 43<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0edition of the Cairo International Film Festival,\u00a0<em>Seven Dogs<\/em>\u00a0is a film about a lonely man\u2019s struggles to provide for his seven dogs even as he is going through severe money problems. The film is Argentinian Director Rodrigo Guerrero\u2019s fourth feature. With a runtime of just over 80 minutes, the film explores the bond between a man and his pets.<\/p>\n<p>11.\u00a0<em>Maariya :<\/em>\u00a0<em>The Ocean Angel (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/11THDR.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sri Lankan film maker Aruna Jayawardana\u2019s\u00a0<em>Maariya : The Ocean Angel<\/em>\u00a0aims to be the second Sri Lankan film to win the Golden Peacock, a full 50 IFFI editions after Lester James Peries\u2019s\u00a0<em>Gamperaliya\u00a0<\/em>won it the first time IFFI was organized as a competitive festival.\u00a0<em>Maariya : The Ocean Angel<\/em>, is a film about a group of fishermen whose lives are disturbed after discovering a sex doll adrift at sea. The film director is best known for his 2011 film\u00a0<em>August Drizzle<\/em><\/p>\n<p>12.\u00a0<em>The Kashmir Files (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/12HD06.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Kashmir Files is a Hindi film centred around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The narration develops around the protagonist, Krishna a young college student who sets out to discover the truth about the untimely demise of his parents.<\/p>\n<p>13.\u00a0<em>Nezouh (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/13B45W.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Winner of the Audience Award at 2022 Venice International Film Festival,\u00a0<em>Nezouh<\/em>\u00a0is a drama about a family in war-torn Syria. The Arabic film is about a family who decides to stay behind in the besieged area in Syria. Director Soudade Kaadan has said that she herself experienced life outside her house for the first time when their neighbourhood was bombed.<\/p>\n<p>14.\u00a0<em>The Storyteller (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/14JRLX.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Anant Mahadevan\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Storyteller\u00a0<\/em>is a film based on the Legendary Auteur Satyajit Ray\u2019s\u00a0 character Tarini Khuro. The story is about how Tarini Khuro finds himself in a peculiar situation after retiring from his job to become a story teller. The film was nominated for the Kim Ji-Seok Award at the 2022 Busan International Film Festival, where it premiered.<\/p>\n<p>15.<em>Kurangu Pedal (2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/16EXC3.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Based on Rasi Alagappan\u2019s short story \u2018Cycle\u2019, Director Kamalakannan\u2019s\u00a0<em>Kurangu Pedal<\/em>\u00a0is about a school boy wants to learn to ride a cycle even as \u00a0his father is unable to teach him. The rural drama relies on the five children in the film to take the narration forward.
