Digital we have to be very careful with the resolution it has a quality of being too sharp. It is less kind to human skin and flaws the details are going to be more vivid.

* Coming to your recent project which you are doing 3 D Cinematography?

Yes…it is a directorial venture from Mohanlal titled as Barroz – Guardian of D’Gamas treasure is a children subject with fantasy adventure which required 3D Cinematography.

<img src="https://images.ottplay.com/images/santosh-sivan-and-mohanlal-on-the-sets-of-barroz-the-guardian-of-dgamas-treasure-31.jpg" alt="Exclusive! No guts no glory!

* What is your take on Digital Cinema Camera resolution is getting higher and Higher?

According to me Somewhere the Resolution getting higher should stop. Technically higher the resolution the color space value becomes complicated. That’s why Alexa sticks to moderate resolution.

4k Resolution is more than enough as standard one which is capable of filming upto Imax standard…many film makers go beyond 4k for taking advantages of cropping the image in the post, (Shooting in 8k and Cropping the image in the post for extra shot..where the resolution still will be with 4k)which i feel unnecessary and Cinematographers composition in the camera should be the final one.

* Yours first national award for best cinematography was for the Malayalam film Perumthachan !

Based on a story by MT Vasudevan Nair (also the screenwriter), Directed by Ajayan the film digs into the psyche of the legendary architect and sculptor Raman — christened ‘Perumthachan’ by many — and the complex relationship between him and his son..i had many paintings as a reference created a warm Light thorough out the film.

* Dalapathy too had warm light ?

The story of the film revolved around Rajinikanth character as reference to Karnan… where i wanted to keep Sun as a pictorial element to the character, in Dalapathy i shot Rajinikanth in the exteriors using Tungsten Light.

* How challenging was shooting Roja ?

Mani Ratnam was very ambitious of Roja but challenge was to achieve it with very limited resources of that time.
