RAMACHANDRA BABU: PIONEER FILMMAKER

Pioneer cinematographer Ramachandra Babu died of a heart attack. The 72-year-old was in Kozhikode hunting for shooting locations. He was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed during the location hunt.

Ramachandra babu  is one of the most important cinematographer who did cinematography from black and white era to color film then to Digital era, the four-time Kerala state award winner had done cinematography for over 125 films including classics such as Nirmalyam, Padayottam, Rathinirvedam, Yavanika, Kanmadam etc.

Ramachandra Babu had his film education on cinematography technology at FTII Pune, he worked with legendary Malayalam filmmakers such as John Abraham, IV Sasi, Bharathan, Maniratnam, and Sasikumar to name a few.

Veteran cinematographer is the founder of  Indian Society of Cinematographers.

Agraharathil Kazhuthai was one of the landmark film made in Tamil, it was one of the firsts of crowd funding Independent Film happened in Tamil Cinema, Ramachandra Babu cinematography and his contribution to the film with  rustic visuals achieved by bare minimal budget.

His recent work was with a stereoscopic 3D Film in Digital format and also Ramachandra Babu’s book Celluloid Swapnatakan had just been released this December.

His younger brother Ravi.K.Chandran is one of the leading cinematographers in India.

SICA pays rich tribute to Ramachandra Babu legendary cinematographer and remembers all his contributions to the world of cinematography.

SICA President P.C.Sreeram says he was shocked to hear sudden demise of  cinematographer Ramachandra Babu , his contribution to each and every film was immense in all languages.Indian cinema has lost its finest technician, May his soul rest in peace.

SICA General secretary  B.Kannan recalls his friendship and his first meeting with Ramachandra Babu while doing Malayalam Film with K.G.George, says his images was truly inspiring and his use of lighting and composition was master class.

Ramachandra Babu last rites will be held at Trivandrum Kerala on 22nd December 2019.
