The Angénieux Oval Iris is a user-swappable iris blade designed exclusively for the Optimo Prime Series, introduced at Cine Gear 2025 in Los Angeles. It’s part of Angénieux’s Integrated Optical Palette (IOP) technology, which allows cinematographers to customize the look of their lenses.

The oval iris creates a unique, elliptical bokeh reminiscent of anamorphic lenses, combining the characteristics of modern high-end spherical lenses with an anamorphic-style aesthetic without the typical constraints of anamorphic lenses.

This feature enables creative flexibility, producing distinctive out-of-focus highlights that enhance the artistic quality of the image.

The Optimo Prime Series, which includes focal lengths from 18mm to 200mm, supports interchangeable iris assemblies, including the oval iris, a three-blade iris for triangular bokeh, and a standard nine-blade iris. The oval iris is available in different subassemblies to cover the full range of Optimo Prime lenses (e.g., D26 for 18mm and 21mm, D38 for 28mm, 40mm, 100mm, 135mm, and 200mm). The iris integration is designed to be straightforward, allowing quick modifications by qualified optics technicians, typically in about 15 minutes at the bench. This customization, combined with options for internal glass elements and rear filters, enables cinematographers to craft bespoke visual styles for their project.

Here are the technical specifications and features of the Angénieux Oval Iris module for the Optimo Prime cine lens series, listed as bullet points for easy reference:
