Dedo Weigert – Dedo lights workshop

Dedo light is one of the most powerful lighting tool to the cinematographers all around the world, Dedo light inventor  Mr.Dedo Weigert in his own words is cinematographer at heart, so he was able to bring a set of lights that meets almost every lighting requirement of the Dop.

Dedo Weigert on association with Lotus Cine Equipments conducted one day demo workshop of new generation DEDO lights to SICA members at BOFTA Chennai ,which was truly a master class, SICA President P.C.Sreeram, General Secretary B.Kannan welcomed Mr.Dedo.

P.C.Sreeram who was extremely happy with the new lights fondly recollected that he has used DEDO nearly 10 years back.

The Dedolight and its unique system was conceived and designed by Director of Photography Dedo Weigert of Munich, Germany.

Mr.Dedo on his presentation first cleared that conventional light fixtures has not changed its design for nearly 100 years, fresnel  T lights just  6% efficiency in spot…most of the light  is dissolved in 90% heat.

Whereas Dedo lights has dual lens system which has raised light efficiency of getting 18% on spot position.

Dedo lights in engineered for clear flood, medium, spot and also with its attachments you can achieve extra flood and also spot.

Their high quality optics for Lights nearly as good as ultra prime lenses for lights is another information that has goosebumps moment.

Demo of these award winning lights started to see when spotted it was razor sharp light  without any blue fringes at the edges.

Now Dedo has new avatar of successfully transferring their award winning, proven optical achievements, into the LED world.

LED  Dedo lights in 5 different sizes which has variable color temperature from Tungsten to Daylight with BI color option we can exactly match to the ambient light conditions.

Lights presented were

DLED 2- D/ DLED2 BI : 25W , 50 – 5 degree focusing range, 8 leaf barn doors, softbox, imager projection attachment for gobos, steel gobo patterns.

DLED 4- 40W   Expanded bi color from 2700- 6500k , dimming without color shift, A/DC ballasts, tools to modify light and color characteristics

DLED 9 -90W Unique dedo light double aspheric optical system, continuous dimming option.  Which has daylight, Tungten and BI color variants

There were some stunners with addition of UV /IR Variant of LED lights ….with UV led light to lit up green screen( reflective fluorescent) enables to film subject in front of green screen with same green color costumes or props…even transparent objects.

Mr.Dedo on his note added that cmos sensor of different cameras see LED lights differently.

About CRI color rendering Index  for light .. he says it evolves eight different colors only, it leaves R9 the RED and R13 skin tone…so Dedo team worked for expanded CRI  ..TLCI ( Television lighting consistency index) which values are closer to the reality of digital world.

Light shaping tools

DGRADE set graduated ND filters set to be used with Dedo lights allows to defy inverse square law allows to create even illumination with distance.

DPEYESET – subtly softens the edge of the light very useful when we spot a light to a particular part and bring soft edges which looks very real.

UNIQUE CONTROL IMAGERY LENS- allows to create background the 3rd dimension

EFLECT -reflective material to create some beautiful patterns for backgrounds

Dedo light Barndoor leaves can also be separately rotated.

LIGHT STREAM REFLECTORS – this one every special which has some great reflecting properties where you can have one powerful Dedo light and place these reflectors at back, sideways in front to bring all lights key,fill, rim all to shape up with one light…even light can be placed outside building using lightstream reflectors at 2nd storey window the light can be pushed into the room.

Concluding part of event Lightstream reflectors where placed at different poistions at the hall one single source of the Dedo light was punched to reflectors to reflectors and all 3 point lighting was achieved with the model.
