The Southern India Cinematographers’ Association (SICA) hosted an exclusive screening of Director Pa Ranjith’s much-anticipated film Thangalaan released on Independence Day.

The event saw a remarkable turnout of SICA members who came together to watch a film that has a powerful narrative and extraordinary performances. At the heart of this lies the stellar cinematography of SICA member Kishor Kumar, whose work on the film has garnered widespread acclaim.

Kishor Kumar, a  member of SICA, has delivered  a interesting piece of work with Thangalaan. The film, which stars Vikram  is set against the historically rich backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields and delivers a potent message about the exploitation during the colonial era. Kishor Kumar’s mastery over his craft is evident throughout the film, particularly in his meticulous use of color and lighting to recreate the period atmosphere of the 200-year-old British era. His ability to balance Narrative with cinematic artistry has added visual depth to Thangalaan.

A Unique Gesture: Kishor Kumar’s Visual Clip

Although Kishor Kumar was unable to attend the screening in person due to his ongoing work on a film’s climax sequence, he made a thoughtful contribution by preparing a special visual clip that was shown before the screening. This gesture not only demonstrated his commitment to his craft but also provided the audience with insight into his current work, further enhancing the experience for those present.

Assistant Cameraman, Colorist John, and Director Athiyan Athirai—whose debut film marked the beginning of Kishor Kumar’s illustrious career—were among those recognized for their contributions. SICA President Karthik Raaja, General Secretary Ilavarasu, Joint Secretary Vetrivel Mahendran, and Executive Committee member MuthuKumaran took the stage to present the honors. The camaraderie and respect shared among the professionals were palpable, making the event a memorable one for all who attended.
