The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a global organisation, representing the best of an international art form, and has members in countries all over the world.

Oscars considered to be most popular and prestigious award that recognises cinematic achievement for nearly nearly 90 plus years.

In 1927 Oscars was formed with just 26 members as year progressed thousands of members are inducted into this process.

Oscars has made a concerted effort to expand the membership over the past few years, in hopes of addressing some important issues and controversy surrounding towards selection of awards.

 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences currently has  more than 8,000 eligible Oscar voters, a jump of 35% from four years ago (6,261 voters in 2015). Each person belongs to one of 17 branches. Each branch nominates for its own category — e.g., editors nominate editors, actors nominate for the four acting categories. Everyone gets to nominate best picture. For the final voting of the winner, all branches vote for everything.

The Academy’s membership process is by sponsorship, not application.  Candidates must be sponsored by two Academy members from the branch to which the candidate seeks admission.

Additionally, Academy Award nominees are automatically considered for membership and do not require sponsors.

Nominees and sponsored candidates are reviewed by branch committees and recommendations for membership are considered by the Academy’s Board of Governors.  The Board decides which individuals will receive invitations.

V Senthil Kumar, co-founder of Chennai-based QUBE Cinema, was recently invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which confers the Oscars, to be one of its Members-at-Large. He is apparently the first person from the technology and business side of the Indian film industry to be invited.

Qube cinema changed the way audience watched the movie in cinema halls in India over the years. Though there is always a argument film vs Digital which is best recording medium..but when it comes to exhibition Digital projection was far better in many ways.

Qube Cinema is a provider of end-to-end digital cinema technology and solutions. The company has 7 offices across India and a subsidiary in Los Angeles, Qube Cinema, Inc. The Qube product line is established globally, with about 7,000 installations across 48 countries so far and has digital cinema operations in 4,000 cinema screens across India.

In August 2011, Qube provided servers and technical support for the fourth year to the Venice film festival.

 

The Academy of Motion Pictures has announced the list of actors, directors and others associated with cinema who have been invited to join them as members in the year 2020. Every year, the Academy members nominate and vote for the Oscar Awards which are given in different categories.

V Senthil Kumar is among the list of 819 new members. Others from India include Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan, casting directors Nandini Shrikent and Tess Joseph, documentary filmmakers Nishtha Jain and Amit Madheshiya, costume designer Neeta Lulla, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal, and film composer Nainita Desai.
