SICA Steals the Show at BME Hyderabad with Vintage Charm and Modern Flair

Broadcast and Mediatainment Expo-2023 happened at Hyderabad HITEX Exhibition center from 13-15 December, SICA was invited to have a stall ( B-208)

SICA’s BME event saw a star-studded lineup with Madhu Ambat, Sunny Joseph, and Rathinavelu leading the charge,

This  three day event  unfolded like a three-act film, each day offering a unique spotlight on the art of cinematography, with Madhu Ambat’s inaugural brilliance, Sunny Joseph’s masterclass magic, and Rathinavelu’s tech-talk triumph.

The Southern Indian Cinematographers’ Association (SICA) stall at the BME Hyderabad was a captivating blend of nostalgia, cinematic glory, and modern engagement. Nearly 30 photo frames adorned the space, showcasing National Award-winning films for best cinematography alongside captivating descriptions. These weren’t just any photographs; they were a portal to a bygone era, a rare collection of vintage film cinematographers, their timeless images whispering tales of celluloid magic.

But SICA wasn’t just basking in the past. An LED wall pulsed with vibrant energy, projecting the union’s international acclaim, the artistry of renowned DOPs, and heartwarming stories of their welfare activities. The past and present intertwined seamlessly, creating a tapestry of cinematic legacy and ongoing commitment.

And what selfie point could be more irresistible than one centered around SICA’s very own vintage Mitchell Camera? This iconic piece of equipment, a silent witness to countless cinematic dreams, became an instant crowd magnet, drawing in curious onlookers and seasoned professionals alike.

The buzz at the SICA stall wasn’t just avisual spectacle. Technicians, aspiring students, and even Telugu film stalwarts like Veteran Cinematographer MV Raghu, TCA President Vindha, Ace Cinematographer Ajayan Vincent  were drawn to the space, eager to engage and connect.

But the day’s true highlight was the surprise visit by the legendary Pc Sreeram. His presence added a touch of star power and sent a wave of excitement through the crowd.

The SICA team wasn’t just showcasing their heritage; they were actively engaging visitors. Each person who stopped by received a beautifully designed brochure, a tangible piece of the union’s story and a coffee mug to carry home.

By weaving together vintage charm, modern technology, and heartfelt engagement, the SICA stall became the most happening place at the BME Hyderabad. It wasn’t just a booth; it was an experience, a celebration of cinematic artistry, a testament to a union’s dedication to its craft and its community. And as the lights dimmed and the crowds dispersed, one thing was clear: the magic of SICA, both past and present, had left an indelible mark on everyone who witnessed its brilliance.
SICA marked its territory at BME’s first day with Madhu Ambat as guest of honor, joined by industry stalwarts like Ramesh Prasad and Ravi Kotaraka.

Adding a touch of cinematic magic to the Southern Indian Cinematographers’ Association (SICA)’s prestigious BME event was the of internationally acclaimed cinematographer, Madhu Ambat. Taking center stage as the esteemed guest of honor, Madhu Ambat’s inaugural address was a captivating blend of insights and inspiration, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

 Having lensed some of Indian cinema’s most iconic visuals, Madhu Ambat’s  presence brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the event. His address served as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring and established cinematographers alike, offering valuable guidance on navigating the ever-evolving landscape of filmmaking.

 Southern India Cinematographers” Association resounding success at the BME event in Hyderabad  was the culmination of a month-long initiative spearheaded by Joint Secretary Seviloraja, who envisioned SICA’s participation in the event. Under the able guidance of General Secretary Ilavarasu, a dedicated committee was formed to ensure SICA’s impactful presence at BME.

President Karthik Raaja Treasurer Sakthi Saravanan assembled a formidable team comprising Vetrivel Mahendran, Muthukumaran, Moses,Arun Kumar and Wide angle Ravi Shankaran, this team, bolstered by the technical expertise of Diwakaran and the insightful content development of CJ Rajkumar, worked tirelessly to showcase SICA’s contributions and aspirations, Visionary guidance of Vice Presidents Nirav Shah and Arthur A. Wilson, and the tireless efforts of Executive Committee members M.S. Prabhu, Loganathan, Naga Saravanan, Gavemic U Ary, and Gopi Jagadeeswaran are the key points for the Success of this event

This unwavering commitment aligns perfectly with SICA’s core mission through the CAM Benefit Trust. This trust aims to empower and elevate cinematographers by providing them with essential knowledge and support. Numerous events organized by SICA, including their participation in BME Hyderabad, serve as crucial fund-raising initiatives for the trust, allowing them to fulfill their noble mission.

SICA extends its heartfelt gratitude to the PDA VENTURES TEAM, led by Executive Director/President Nazeeba Zarin, for their exceptional partnership in making the BME event a resounding success. The dedication and expertise of Danney Francis (Director New Initiatives), Praveen Nair (Director), Vikas (GM Design), Sabarish Selvan (Senior Manager), and Mona (Manager Marketing) were instrumental in bringing this cinematic vision to life.
