India’s First Self-Designed Rotating Body Rig

Invented by Cinematographer Gopikrishna SICA member  after six months of research and development, this pioneering rig redefines how movement is captured on camera. Designed and built entirely in India, it can fully rotate even high-end cinema cameras like the RED Komodo, unlocking 360° storytelling freedom.

Why It’s a Game-Changer

Instead of relying on cranes, gimbals, or multi-operator rigs, this setup allows the DOP to personally control rotation speed and direction while wearing the rig. This gives unmatched intimacy, precision, and creative control in both planned and spontaneous shots.

Technical Features

Counterweight Balance System – Maintains smooth movement and reduces strain.

Chest & Waist Support – Ensures ergonomic comfort for extended takes.

Smooth Rotating Knob – Allows single-operator rotation control without jerks.

Rotating Head with Bridge Plate – Maintains perfect axis balance for heavy cinema rigs.

Adjustable Rail Rods & 3/8″ Mount Points – Industry-standard compatibility.

Quick-Release Straps – For fast wear and removal during hectic shoots.

Creative Shot Possibilities

This rig allows an entire new language of camera movement:

1. Character Fall/Collapse Shots – Rotate with the actor as they fall backward or sideways, giving the audience the sensation of falling with them.

2. Drunken or Dizzy POV – Perfect for intoxication, vertigo, or head injury scenes, simulating disorientation.

3. Dream or Hallucination Sequences – Smooth, floating spins that feel surreal or otherworldly.

4. One-Take POV Transitions – Move seamlessly from facing the actor to seeing through their eyes in a single shot.

5. Emotional Spiral Shots – Slowly rotate during a tense or emotional breakdown scene to visualise the character’s turmoil.

6. Fight & Action Spins – Follow a fighter as they spin, flip, or get thrown, giving impact and energy to the scene.

7. Music Video Stylisation – Continuous 360° spins around performers or dancers for a hypnotic visual.

8. Character Point-of-View Combat – See opponents from the fighter’s moving perspective.

9. First-Person Stunts – Create high-adrenaline action where the audience feels “inside” the stunt.

10. Falling into Darkness – Rotate while lowering into shadows or water, amplifying tension
