Shooting high resolution Videos for Motion picture and Broadcast Industry was kickstarted by RED and time to time shooting resolution has gone up to 8K and now many leading Cinema Camera Manufacturers also started introducing Camera models that shoots more than 5k video images.

4K video resolution is becoming the new gold standard. But in professional circles, the real focus is on 8K.

This ultra-high HD standard provides stunning clarity on large screens, where pixels aren’t visible even from inches away.

Shooting high resolution images is a big advantage for film makers but challenge lies when post production workflow starts…!

8K footage no longer have to be slowed down and hindered by poor playback performance. Nvidia and RED partnered on and developed this year.

Working with leading camera maker RED DIGITAL CAMERA   makes it possible for video editors and color graders to work with 8K footage in full resolution — in real time — reaching greater than 24 frames per second using just a single-processor PC with one Quadro RTX GPU.

And at less than half the price of CPU-laden workstations, this solution puts 8K within reach for a broad universe of post-production professionals using RED cameras whose content is viewed by millions.

In a short and simple presentation at the Linwood Dunn Theater hv full resolution 8K REDCODE RAW playback was demonstrated on workstations using the latest RTX GPUs from Nvidia.

Things have changed for the better since then and this impressive new tech is focused on not only the Debayer, but also the Decompression of the R3D being moved from the CPU over to the GPU. What this provides is vastly improved playback as well as faster encoding due to the freed up resources of the CPU. Some of us have been bold working natively with our R3D footage investing in decent hardware to make that a doable workflow. Shortly, in about 2 months, the landscape will change once again in a big way across current and previous gen GPUs. And while the stunning results were focused on 8K, you will see massive improvements across all formats and resolutions. And yes, this scales across multiple GPUs. On a decent-yet-moderate system featuring two Titan RTX GPUs you can hit between 48-60fps playback at 8K. That is absolutely unreal. And to think what you could do with Quadros with this tech, well, that will be rather spicy. Jarred Land, the President of RED, as well as Dan Duran and Nate Heartt spoke briefly and passionately about what this means for the RED ecosystem, productions, and filmmakers. To get here has been a goal for many years, and it is now a reality. This isn’t big news. This is huge. #R3D
